What if I told you, America gave us a black president to keep the system running exactly the same. Barack Obama was historic, the first black president. But beyond the symbolism, who actually benefited under Obama, Wall Street got bailed out. Black homeowners got evicted. Drone strikes exploded over five hundred strikes, thousands dead, many civilians. He deported more immigrants than any president before him, and police departments. He gave them more funding and military gear. Yes, he was eloquent, cool, hopeful. But while people cried at his inauguration, banks were SWAT following homes, bombs were dropping in Yemen, and nothing truly changed for working class black Americans. Obama wasn't a revolution. He was a return to normal, but with better branding. He inspired millions. But we have to ask, Was he a symbol of progress or the system's most powerful illusion ?
