UN Warns of Imminent Food Crisis in Sudan

UN warns food aid in Sudan could run out by end of March | AfricanewsAs the world's largest hunger crisis deepens, a stark warning has been issued by the United Nations. With millions on the brink of starvation, the UN is urging donors to act swiftly to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in war-torn Sudan.

Millions at Risk of Starvation
The UN warns that food aid in Sudan could run out by the end of March unless urgent new funding is secured. This alarming prediction affects over 21 million people, nearly half of Sudan's population, who are already struggling with acute food insecurity.

Devastating Consequences of Civil War
The humanitarian crisis in Sudan has been exacerbated by the ongoing civil war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Tens of thousands have lost their lives, and around 11 million people have been displaced, leaving them vulnerable to hunger and starvation.

UN's Plea for Urgent Action
The World Food Programme has already been forced to cut rations to the 'absolute minimum for survival.' Without immediate support, millions could lose access to life-saving assistance within weeks. The UN is urging donors to act quickly to prevent a further humanitarian catastrophe.

Famine Confirmed in Sudan
Famine has been confirmed in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and in Kadugli in neighboring Kordofan. The UN warns that famine conditions are also likely in other areas, including parts of Dilling and displacement camps around El-Fasher.

The situation in Sudan is dire, with millions on the brink of starvation. It is imperative that donors act swiftly to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. The world must come together to support those affected by this crisis and ensure that life-saving assistance reaches those who need it most.
