#The Story I Live to Tell

People think survival stories are loud full of sirens, chaos, and dramatic rescues. Mine wasn’t like that. Mine was quiet. So quiet, in fact, that for a long time, no one even knew I was fighting.
I grew up in a place where expectations were louder than dreams. Every day felt like a script someone else had written for me: wake up, go to school, smile when spoken to, don’t ask too many questions. On the outside, I played my part well. Inside, though, it felt like I was disappearing.
It didn’t happen all at once. It was small things at first losing interest in things I used to enjoy, feeling tired even after doing nothing, overthinking every word I said. I told myself it was just a phase. Everyone feels like that sometimes, right?
But the phase didn’t pass.
There were days I would sit in a room full of people and feel completely alone. Days when even getting out of bed felt like a challenge I wasn’t sure I could win. And the hardest part? I didn’t know how to explain it. How do you tell people you’re struggling when you can’t even find the right words for it yourself?
So I stayed quiet.
I got really good at pretending. Smiling when I didn’t feel like it. Laughing at jokes I barely heard. Saying “I’m fine” so many times it almost sounded true.
Almost.
The turning point wasn’t some big moment. No sudden miracle, no life-changing speech. It was something small—almost forgettable. One afternoon, I caught my reflection in a window. I looked tired… but more than that, I looked lost. And for the first time, instead of ignoring it, I asked myself a simple question:
“If I don’t speak up for myself, who will?
That question stayed with me.
I didn’t change overnight. But I started taking small steps. I opened up a little to someone I trusted. It wasn’t easy. My voice shook, my words came out messy, and I kept feeling like I should just stop talking. But I didn’t.
And something surprising happened.
They listened.
Not with judgment. Not with impatience. Just… listened.

That moment didn’t fix everything, but it made something clear: I wasn’t as alone as I thought.

From there, I kept going. Some days were better, some were still heavy, but I learned to face them instead of hiding from them. I started understanding myself more what I needed, what I felt, what mattered to me.
And slowly, I began to come back to life.
Not the version of me people expected but the real one. The one who feels deeply, who thinks a lot, who sometimes struggles but keeps moving anyway.
That’s the story I live to tell.
Not a story about being perfect. Not a story about never falling.
But a story about learning to stand up again, even when no one sees you fall.
And maybe the most important part?

It’s still being written.
