"FORGIVENESS"

The Bible teaches forgiveness through stories like the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, where a king forgives a massive debt but later refuses to forgive a smaller one, illustrating how God forgives us when we forgive others. It also shows the Prodigal Son's father's overflowing forgiveness for his wasteful son and the example of Joseph, who forgave his brothers who sold him into slavery. In the greatest example, Jesus forgave his crucifiers, saying, "Father, forgive them" (Luke 23:34).
The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant
The Story:
A servant owes a king a debt so large it cannot be paid, and the king, moved by compassion, forgives it all. Later, this same servant refuses to forgive a much smaller debt owed to him by another servant. When the king hears of this, he is enraged and revokes his forgiveness.
The Lesson:
Jesus tells this story to teach that God's forgiveness for us is immense, and He expects us to extend the same boundless forgiveness to others.
The Prodigal Son
The Story:
A son wastes his inheritance on "wild living," becoming destitute and desperate. He returns home, expecting only a servant's job, but his father runs to him, embraces him, and throws a feast to celebrate his return.
The Lesson:
This parable shows a loving father whose forgiveness is unconditional and immediate, celebrating the return of his son despite his past.
Joseph's Example
The Story:
Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and exiled for many years. When they finally met again in Egypt, Joseph had the power to seek revenge but instead offered them mercy and compassion, inviting them to live in Egypt.
The Lesson:
Joseph's story demonstrates forgiveness even after profound betrayal and hurt, showing how God can strengthen us to act with grace and love towards those who wronged us.
Jesus's Example
The Story:
On the cross, in the midst of his suffering, Jesus looked at those who were crucifying him and cried out, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34).
The Lesson:
Jesus's prayer is the ultimate example of forgiveness, interceding for his persecutors even as he died. He shows that forgiveness is a powerful act of love, offered even to those who inflict suffering.
