💔 NEVER LET GO – Episode Seventeen: "A Woman’s Sixth Sense"
Dave tapped Ivy on the shoulder again, and she jumped awake with fear shaking through her body. Her heart pounded fast and loud inside her chest.
“You again?” she asked with her voice trembling slightly.
Dave sighed, his tone both concerned and insistent. “You obviously need help my dear, but you are denying yourself the very help you need. Just let me keep you safe from danger. It is already late in the evening, and trust me, you would not want to witness the terrible things that happen around this area at night.”
She swallowed slowly and looked around the empty road again. “Alright. It is not like I have any choice anyway,” she said and yawned in a weak and hungry manner.
Dave noticed her condition clearly. Without saying anything, he signaled her toward his car and she followed reluctantly. He opened the door for her and then drove off to a location Ivy could not recognize. Her mind was spinning with confusion. She kept praying silently, wishing she had listened to her instincts earlier. The car moved for long minutes until they finally arrived at a large, beautifully built house. Ivy’s eyes widened a little. Still, fear would not let her feel amazed.
She hesitated at the entrance, holding her bag tightly against her chest. “What place is this?” she asked with suspicion.
“It is my house. I live here alone. Do not be scared because I will never allow anything to harm you, not to mention hurting you myself,” Dave assured her, showing his teeth in a smile that looked harmless at first glance.
After a long pause, Ivy reluctantly walked inside with him. The interior was neat. The furniture was expensive. The air smelled like perfume. Yet, everything still felt uncomfortable. Dave asked her to relax on a chair, and she sat stiffly, not allowing her body to sink in. Moments later, he walked away to get her food.
While waiting, Ivy gazed around the house, checking for anything suspicious. Surprisingly, she noticed framed calendars with images of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit hung on the walls. Beautiful designs of angels were also pasted around the sitting room. The sight made her relax a little. She breathed out gently.
“Maybe he is a born again Christian,” she thought, and her heart softened a little. She felt hopeful for the first time that day.
A few minutes passed, and Ivy suddenly felt the urge to use the toilet. She stood up and walked slowly, looking for Dave so she could ask for directions. As she approached the kitchen, she heard a tiny rustling sound. She peeked quietly and saw Dave with a wrapped substance in his hand. He opened it carefully like someone who did not want the world to see what he was holding. Ivy’s eyes widened. A cold fear crawled into her stomach.
She watched as Dave poured some of the powder into a glass of juice he had already served. He stirred it slowly while smiling in a frightening way. Ivy’s entire body felt numb. Sweat covered her palms. She did not wait to see more. She tiptoed away immediately and rushed back to the sitting room, pretending like she had been sitting there peacefully.
Shortly after, Dave returned with a tray containing fried rice, chicken, and the same glass of juice. He smiled warmly as he placed them before her.
“Here you go. Eat and enjoy,” he said.
Ivy forced a smile and thanked him quietly. She placed the food and drink gently on the table without touching them. Her heart felt like it wanted to jump out of her chest.
“Why are you not eating?” Dave asked with raised eyebrows. “You were extremely hungry earlier.”
“I am very sorry sir,” Ivy began, acting like nothing was wrong. “I just remembered that I’m fasting,” she said quickly, hoping he would accept the lie. “It’s a family deliverance. I cannot break it now, but I promise I’ll eat next time I come to your house.”
Dave’s brow furrowed, skepticism flashing across his face. “Fasting? But the time is almost past seven in the evening. Are you fasting for the whole day or something?”
“It will end at twelve midnight,” Ivy responded calmly. “Thank you so much for your care. I really appreciate it.”
Dave chuckled and shook his head. He moved closer, persistence in his gaze. “At least taste it a little. I prepared it specially for you my dear.”
Ivy pretended to laugh lightly. “But I just said I am fasting. I appreciate it, but I cannot. Thank you.”
Trying a different tack, she asked carefully,
"By the way, where is your wife? And maybe your children? I did not see any pictures of them anywhere.”
Dave suddenly laughed loudly, almost awkwardly. He moved closer to Ivy until she felt her body tighten with discomfort.
“Do I look like a married man to you? How could you expect a handsome guy like me to tie himself down at this young age? My dear, I am a bachelor. I need to enjoy life with pretty ladies before falling into what you call marriage.”
“That is a ridiculous thing to say sir,” Ivy replied boldly. “Marriage is not an enslavement. It is something beautiful. It is part of God’s purpose for a man and woman. Marriage comes with blessings. You should try it one day.”
Dave leaned closer and his voice changed. “Let us forget marriage talk. Right now, let us think like adults. Ever since I saw you on the roadside, my heart has not stopped beating for your beauty and your sexy skin. Let me take care of this beautiful body of yours. You will thank me later,” Dave whispered and slowly touched her hand.
Ivy instantly pulled her hand away and gave him a cold stare. He suddenly grabbed her breast roughly, and Ivy slapped him so hard that his face turned red.
“How dare you touch me? And to think that you pretend to be a Christian with all these images of Jesus Christ around your house. You should be ashamed of yourself!” Ivy shouted angrily.
She stood up to leave immediately, but Dave reached toward her chest and tried to force himself on her. Ivy struggled desperately until her hand touched the glass of hot coffee he had prepared. Without thinking twice, she grabbed it and poured it on him. The hot liquid splashed across his skin, and Dave screamed bitterly in pain.
Ivy wasted no second. She ran. Dave chased her at first, but the pain slowed him down. She did not look back. She kept running with all her strength, shaking from fright. She dashed forward without watching the road. In her panic, she suddenly entered the main road. A car was speeding toward her. The driver blasted the horn repeatedly. Ivy froze like a statue. She could not even scream. The car screeched loudly and stopped just inches away from her.
For a moment, Ivy thought it was Stanley again. Everything felt like the first day he almost hit her. She rushed to the driver’s window with tears of relief.
“Stanley! It is Ivy. It is your love,” she cried out.
But when she looked inside, her heart broke again. It was not Stanley. It was a young lady around her age. The disappointment made Ivy feel crushed inside.
The lady stepped down from the car, looking extremely worried. “Are you hurt? Do you feel pain anywhere?”
“No, I am fine,” Ivy replied and turned around quickly to check if Dave was still following her.
“You were running like someone who wanted to die. You did not even react to my horn,” the lady said softly.
Ivy swallowed and spoke in a low voice. “I was running from someone. He tried to rape me. I was only running to save my life.”
The lady gasped and placed her hand over her chest. “Jesus Christ! Where is the wicked man?”
“I cannot see him again. Maybe he has left.”
“This city is becoming something else,” the lady said. “Where do you live? I will drop you off.”
Ivy lowered her gaze sadly. “I have no home. I am new here. I do not know anywhere. Everything looks strange.”
“How did you come here then?” the lady asked in total confusion.
“It is a long story,” Ivy replied weakly. “I do not even know where to start.”
The lady sighed, thinking deeply. “In that case, come with me. It is dangerous for you to stay here. This area is known for rape and kidnapping cases. But you will be safe in my house.”
Ivy hesitated again. She did not want to make another wrong choice. She felt her heart beating hard.
The lady continued softly, “Do not be scared. I am a woman like you. I also live with my two female friends. You have nothing to fear.”
Those words gave Ivy a little peace. She nodded slowly and stepped into the car.
“My name is Cindy, you?” the lady said gently.
“I am Ivy,” she replied in a quiet voice.
“Nice meeting you Ivy,” Cindy said. “I was just returning from a party. My friends could not come with me because of their work schedules."
As they drove away, Ivy looked out of the car window, praying with all her heart that this new stranger would not turn out like Dave. She hoped desperately for safety, even if her heart was still broken.
