THE BRIDE UNDER THE BED

EPISODE 12

Night fell quietly over the safe house.

Too quietly.

Abeni sat on the edge of the bed, the golden key resting in her palm. It felt heavier now… like it carried weight beyond metal.

Morayo stood by the window, the curtains barely parted.

“They’ll be watching,” Morayo said without turning. “Zora never sleeps when she’s losing control.”

Abeni swallowed. “Then why does this place feel… exposed?”

Morayo finally faced her. “Because safety is temporary. Preparation is permanent.”

She reached into a drawer and placed a slim file on the table.

“What’s that?” Abeni asked.

“Your real wedding gift,” Morayo replied.

Abeni opened it.

Inside were photographs.

Zora.
Leo.
Meetings.
Documents being signed.
Men in suits shaking hands.

One photo made her chest tighten.

Leo—smiling—standing beside a man she didn’t recognize… but whose face felt powerful. Dangerous.

“Who is he?” Abeni whispered.

Morayo’s voice dropped. “A fixer. He makes problems disappear. People too.”

Abeni’s fingers trembled. “My marriage wasn’t just about property, was it?”

Morayo shook her head slowly. “No. It was about leverage.”

Abeni stood up abruptly. “So what was I supposed to be? A wife? A pawn?”

Morayo met her gaze. “A hostage who didn’t know she was captured.”

Silence filled the room.

Then Abeni laughed—soft, broken, but real.

“They really thought I was stupid,” she said.

Morayo smiled faintly. “They counted on it.”

Abeni walked to the mirror. The woman staring back looked nothing like the bride who hid under a bed days ago.

Her eyes were sharper now.

Colder.

“I want to see everything,” Abeni said firmly.
“Every document. Every lie. Every plan they made.”

Morayo nodded. “Once you open that safe deposit box… there’s no turning back.”

Abeni closed her fingers around the key.

“I already turned back when I left that hotel,” she said.
“I won’t do it again.”

Suddenly—

A phone vibrated on the table.

Morayo glanced at the screen.

Then stiffened.

“What?” Abeni asked.

Morayo slowly turned the phone toward her.

UNKNOWN NUMBER
Message preview:

“We know where you are.”

Abeni’s heart skipped.

Another message followed immediately.

“Come alone tomorrow morning… or your father pays the price.”

Abeni’s breath left her body in one sharp gasp.

Morayo swore under her breath. “Zora.”

Abeni didn’t sit down.

Didn’t cry.

Didn’t scream.

She simply straightened her shoulders.

“They want me,” she said quietly.

Morayo grabbed her arm. “This could be a trap.”

Abeni nodded. “I know.”

Then she looked up — calm, steady, terrifyingly resolved.

“But this time… I won’t be the one under the bed".
