✨ Craving Mr. Cold — Chapter 48 ✨
“The Summons”
Ana was halfway through replying emails when her office phone rang.
She frowned.
No one used the internal line anymore.
She picked it up. “Hello?”
“This is the executive secretary’s office,” a woman said crisply. “Miss Ana, you are required in Conference Room B in ten minutes.”
Ana straightened. “May I ask what this is regarding?”
A brief pause.
“A discrepancy report tied to the Phoenix Project.”
The line went dead.
Her stomach tightened.
Discrepancy.
She hadn’t submitted anything questionable. She knew her work — every figure, every approval, every timestamp.
Mina leaned over from the next desk. “What happened?”
“I’ve been summoned,” Ana replied quietly. “Conference Room B.”
Mina’s eyes widened. “That room is for investigations.”
Ana swallowed.
She gathered her notebook, laptop, and access card, forcing herself to breathe steadily as she walked down the corridor.
Inside her chest, unease grew.
---
INSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM
The door was already closed when she arrived.
She knocked.
“Come in.”
The room was cold. Glass walls. Long table.
Inside sat:
Director Min-woo
Two internal auditors
And, seated slightly apart… Hani
Ana’s jaw tightened.
Now it made sense.
“Have a seat, Miss Ana,” Min-woo said evenly.
Ana sat, spine straight.
One of the auditors slid a printed document across the table.
“This report was submitted anonymously last night,” he said. “It alleges manipulation of supplier projections and unauthorized access to restricted files.”
Ana stared at the paper.
Her name was bolded.
Her employee ID attached.
Her breath caught. “This isn’t mine.”
Min-woo studied her closely. “Explain.”
“The access log may show my ID,” Ana said calmly, “but I did not make those changes. I was not even in the building after 6 p.m.”
Hani crossed her legs slowly. “Funny,” she said lightly, “because the edits were made at 6:42 p.m.”
Ana turned to her sharply. “And how would you know that?”
Hani smiled. “Because I reviewed the logs.”
Min-woo’s eyes flicked to Hani. “You were not assigned to this review.”
Silence.
Hani’s smile faltered slightly. “I was… assisting.”
Ana’s fingers clenched under the table.
This wasn’t assistance.
This was a setup.
---
THE BREAK IN THE STORY
The second auditor spoke. “There’s another issue.”
He projected a screen.
Login history appeared.
Ana’s ID.
But the IP address—
Ana leaned forward. “That terminal is on the eighteenth floor.”
Min-woo stiffened. “You work on the twenty-second.”
“Yes,” Ana said firmly. “And I’ve never used the eighteenth-floor terminal.”
Min-woo’s gaze sharpened.
“Who has access to both floors?”
Silence stretched.
Hani shifted in her seat.
Min-woo closed the file slowly.
“This session is paused,” he said. “IT will conduct a full trace. Until then, no conclusions will be drawn.”
He looked directly at Ana.
“You are not suspended. But you are under observation.”
Ana nodded once. “Understood.”
As she stood to leave, Hani spoke softly:
“Careful, Ana. Mistakes like this… end careers.”
Ana turned back, eyes steady.
“So do lies,” she said quietly.
Outside the room, Ana’s hands finally trembled.
But not from fear.
From anger.
Someone wanted her out.
And now… it was official.
